Film Production Pipelines and Artist Techniques 5

This session's topic will be film production and game development infrastructure and the infrastructure technology itself. In the previous session (*1), we discussed FX and the difficulty of building and operating infrastructure environments. The technical aspects of building environments for cloud infrastructure are developing briskly; at Polygon Pictures, as we aim to establish stable production while reducing operational costs, we too are going through a process of trial and error trying to figure out things such container designs that are suitable for film production.

This time I would therefore like to look at use cases for infrastructure utilization in film production, including container operation and more, as a basis for considering container usage appropriate to each; I would also like to reflect on the current state of infrastructure technology from a film production standpoint by thinking about what makes an infrastructure composition which, even though it is on premises, has a degree of scalability and provides for distribution of computing resources. From there I would like to examine, for example, how infrastructure requirements change for film production on a scale of several artists versus productions with a scale of several hundred artists, and I would like to discuss these requirements with the participants during the seminar.

Details will be announced via additions to this page at a later date. This time I would like to take the approach of seeking out in advance people who wish to participate in the session including the lecture, and improve the plan from there.
